Recently, we were thrilled to see one of our youngest supporters, 12-year-old Gianna Peer, featured in a news segment that highlighted her incredible journey in the world of baseball. Her story is not only a testament to her skill and determination but also a reminder of why we are so proud to be a part of her athletic journey.
A Rising Star in Baseball
Gianna Peer is no ordinary young athlete. At just 12 years old, she’s making waves in a traditionally male-dominated sport, proving that girls can not only compete but excel. As a standout baseball player in Livonia, Michigan, Gianna has been inspiring both her teammates and opponents alike. Her impressive batting average of .521 against the boys, combined with a home run that cleared the fence at 265 feet, speaks volumes about her skill. Oh, and let's not forget — she can throw a 72-mile-per-hour pitch that’s leaving others in awe.
But it's not just Gianna's physical skills that set her apart. It's her heart, her mindset, and her resilience. Despite being the only girl on most of her teams, Gianna has always been treated with respect and camaraderie by her teammates. She’s made it clear that she’s part of something bigger, and that support system is just as crucial to her success as her athletic talent.
Overcoming Challenges
Gianna's journey hasn't been without its challenges. A few years ago, she began experiencing pain while running, a problem that was affecting her speed and performance. After seeing a doctor, she was diagnosed with Slipped Capital Femoral Epiphysis (SCFE), a hip condition that required surgery. As a result, Gianna faced a long recovery. Yet, through her strength and determination, she not only recovered but also became stronger — increasing her pitching velocity by five miles per hour.
Her story is nothing short of remarkable. In fact, Gianna's journey reminds us of a Hollywood script, full of twists and turns, but ultimately leading to a bright future. And just like in the movies, Gianna’s parents’ journey to parenthood was a long and emotional one. After three failed adoptions, the Peers were ready to give up, but then, in January 2012, they received a life-changing phone call. The next day, Gianna was born, and her family’s world was forever changed.
